Calculators
Use our handy calculators to estimate your project requirements. Keep in mind that they are theoretical calculations and do not allow for installation variations, for example thermal bridging, fixing methods, etc.
DEW POINT CALCULATOR
Use this calculator to determine the Dew Point temperature (the temperature in which moisture starts to form on surfaces by inputting the air temperature and relative humidity. Alternatively, calculate the Relative Humidity with a known air temperature and dew point temperature.
NOISE LEVELS CALCULATOR
This calculator adds decibel (dB) noise levels. It’s often used in a workplace or project site to measure the noise levels when several machines are in operation. Though this calculation sounds straightforward, it uses a logarithmic scale, so it can be tricky. For example, 50dB + 50dB = 53dB.
SURFACE PROTECTION CALCULATOR
This calculator has two main uses:
1. When checking that the temperature of a surface is safe and won’t burn someone who comes into contact with it, and
2. When checking the surface remains above a dew point temperature to stop condensation. You can also use the calculator to determine the thickness of insulation required to maintain the surface of a vessel at a desired temperature.
DEW POINT
Use this calculator to determine the Dew Point temperature of a surface. The Dew Point is the temperature in which moisture starts to form on a surface.
- The Dew Point Calculator is often used to work out the minimum insulation surface temperature required to minimise the risk of condensation forming on a given surface.
- It’s also useful for determining the maximum humidity before condensation will start to form at a given surface temperature.
To make the calculation, input the air temperature and relative humidity. Alternatively, calculate the Relative Humidity with a known air temperature and dew point temperature.
RELATIVE HUMIDITY CALCULATOR
HEAT FLOW
Work out the heat flow and surface temperature of a vessel based on inputting: conditions within the vessel, the type of surfaces, and insulation. This helps you understand the benefit of insulation and the energy required to maintain a temperature within the vessel.
In cases where the vessel contains a fluid that will contact the inside surface, assume that the internal surface temperature is equal to the operating temperature and make the appropriate selection made in the dropdown menu.
The table below the calculator provides typical k-values for common products used in industrial applications.
NOISE LEVEL
This calculator adds decibel (dB) noise levels. Use it in a workplace or project site to measure the noise levels when several machines are in operation.
The Noise Level Calculator is useful as part of your workplace health and safety regime. Use it to determine the estimated total noise level from running several noisy machines at the same time. Or use the calculator to work out the noise level if a new machine is added to an already noisy area.
Though this calculation sounds straightforward, it uses a logarithmic scale, so it can be tricky. For example, 50dB + 50dB = 53dB.
Input up to 9 noise levels in decibels (dB) and press CALCULATE for the answer.
PROTECTION
The Protection Calculator has two main uses:
- As part of your workplace health and safety regime. The calculator helps you check that the temperature of a surface is safe and won’t be a burn risk in case someone comes into contact with it.
- When checking the surface remains above a dew point temperature to stop condensation. You can also use the calculator to determine the thickness of insulation required to maintain the surface of a vessel at a desired temperature.
